There are many factors that can impact your sperm count and sperm motility, and some of these factors are well within your control. Although both sperm count and sperm motility are important to a man's fertility, sperm motility is crucial because if the sperm cannot swim to reach an egg, natural conception will not occur. The Fertell male fertility test assesses sperm motility in a man's semen.

Factors that Impact Sperm Count, Sperm Motility and Mens' Fertility

Pelvic  Surgery—This can cause scarring in the reproductive tract and can lower sperm count.
Toxic  Pollutants—These pollutants include pesticides, workplace chemicals, chemotherapy, mercury or heavy metals. These can affect sperm count, sperm motility and sperm morphology.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases—These illnesses affect men’s fertility because they can result in reproductive tract scarring. However, many of these infections are treatable.
Prescription Drugs—Certain drugs can influence sperm count and sperm motility, so it is important to check with your doctor about the drugs you’re taking.
Hormonal Problems—Some hormonal issues can affect men’s fertility, at least temporarily. These can often be addressed with hormone treatment.
Zinc Deficiency—This condition can be improved with supplements.
Alcohol abuse, recreational drugs and smoking — Each of these is considered toxic to men’s fertility.
Excessive exercise—Too much exercise can impact men’s fertility because it results in the overproduction of certain hormones.
Anabolic Steroid Use—Steroids are also toxic to men’s fertility.
Heat— Exposure to high temperatures can lower sperm count.
